I've been pushed over the edge!!!!
08-04-2008, 2:58 PM 2479

My pet Shih-Tzu has started defecating and urinating in my room routinely. I've had it, I let her outside all the time but it seems like all she wants to do is go in my room. I've tried to teach her a lesson but none of them seem to work my latest one is sticking her outside. How can I prevent my dog from treating doing this? I swear sometimes I wish I bought another pit bull.

I also want to point out that my dog snaps at me unprovoked and also is very protective of my parents I am starting to hate my dog is there anything conventional I can do she can be very nice but always turns on my brother and I 95% of the time while my parents are safe from Molly's (Our Dog) short fuse. I think their is a major dominacy issue in this department. If anyone can help me I'd be greatly appreciated. I might have to sever connections with Molly if this behavior continues.

Time for you to get help from a trainer.  There are hundreds of articles online about potty training, and each one of them will remind you that it is YOUR responsibility to be sure your dog's needs are taken care of.  When YOU do not do that, you can be sure that your young dog - whatever the breed - will make potty mistakes.  This is normal dog behavior and has nothing to do with "dominance" - and everything to do with your lack of knowledge.

It should also be said that trying to punish a dog for what is YOUR mistake will only teach the dog that you are dangerous and unpredictable.  No responsible person would ever try to "teach the dog a lesson" - because it's been shown that this kind of thing will not work.  It's cruel to punish the dog for YOUR mistakes.  Get help, stop hitting your dog, and learn a little bit about how to teach your dog - in a kind, clear, and sensible way, please.  If this is inconvenient for you, then please surrender her to a rescue group - and don't get another dog.
