Tearing up carpet
01-16-2008, 3:06 PM 2196

My 3 month old French Bulldog/Yorkie pup has to stay in the spare room during the day while I am at work. She has been trying to 'dig' her way out by ripping up the carpet under the door. What can I do to calm her during the day and make her stop destroying my carpet?

simple answer:

Give her something else to do, and make it IRRESISTABLE!

here's some ideas

Save a COUCH! Buy 20 chewtoys!

Dogs need to chew and they’ll chew whatever they can. Your puppy should have 5-10 chewtoys that you vary daily. For a chewtoy to be most effective it MUST HAVE some edible component to it. That means part of it is designed for the dog to INGEST and DIGEST. Your dog MAY chew on a rope toy for example, but if you NEED to work out your dog’s need to chew, a rope toy is not a sure bet. Here’s some sure bets.

GREAT CHEWTOYS

Hollow bone smeared with cheese, peanut butter or wet dog food
Kong toys filled with anything practically that's edible!
Bully stick [from the dog store]
Busy buddy toy stuffed with food
SMOKED Marrow bones from the petstore

NOT A CHEW TOY [although they MAY chew on  it once or twice, it won't buy you the solid attention and energy burning you need it to]
Tennis ball
Rope toy
Rubber bone
Busy buddy  [stuffed with food]
Plush stuffed animal
Frisbee

I was also going to make some suggestions, but your list is PERFECT. I'm new here and am so glad to have found you guys. It's wonderful that so many of you care so much and so well for your pets. I was reading something on the net the other day that truly astounded me.

There's this one site where there are debates by experts on various subjects. There is one debate called: “Should We Keep Pets?”. I like the idea that these people are experts in their fields, but one of their expert debaters wants to abolish the institution of pet ownership. Take a look! I’d be interested to get your take on this. as I'd like to respond and would love to get  input from you guys before replying to him there. http://www.opposingviews..../questions/should-we-keep-pets
So - let me know what you think about what this Professor guy has to say. Thanks so much.
