I got some free supplements from my local store to I think sprinkle on my dogs food, but are they really necessary?  I mean, don't they get wat they need from the food I buy?

Anyone else use these?

Is it Missing Link?  I have seen that and have considered getting it.  I have heard that it can help joints and improve coat.  Never tried it though.

I worked for a vet for ten years and the consensus was that any decent name brand dog food would supply adequate nutrition.

Suppliments are always an area for debate- and yes good dog food should supply all the nutrition your dog needs but...

Some dogs have special needs especially as they age that do require a suppliment. Also all dogs can benefit from extra support for their coat and skin.

My 10 year old chin was very close to neck surgery at the tune of $4,000. plus the risk of the surgery itself. I was reccommended by a friend to try a suppliment for his bones and joints and not only did we avoid surgery but his overall function has improved greatly. Based on his improvement my vet now reccommends this to his other patients over what he previously used to prescribe.

If you want to learn about suppliments a great place to go is this link-this is where I purchase all supplies for my three chins and I have been so impressed that I joined the company so that others could benefit as well. Ther is great info on nutrition and a great video clip to watch.

You can only learn more and maybe help your dogs in the long run.

Depends on the food. Many people take supplements, because the soil in which our food is grown is depleted, and environmental factors make it difficult to get enough nutrition from food alone. If this is true for us, I'm sure it's true for our pets.

My German Shepherd is 12, and I've been giving her Glycoflex, a joint supplement, for many years with good results (my vet recommended it.) I have used Missing Link and did see results with skin and coat. I give my girl fresh vegetables in her food, and she loves them. Also, filtered water is helpful for getting rid of toxins that aggravate arthritis (I know, they're happy to drink out of the toilet!)
